What a maintenance visit covers
-
01Engine service
Oil and oil filter change, air filter, spark plugs, and a look at belts, hoses and the fuel connection for leaks or wear.
-
02Battery and controller
A load test on the starter battery, terminals cleaned, and a check of the controller settings, exercise schedule and fault history.
-
03Transfer switch and a real test
We look over the transfer switch, then simulate an outage so the generator starts, takes your house and hands it back to LES.
Angi's generator maintenance cost guide describes the same kind of visit: changing the oil and filters, checking fuel and fluid levels, inspecting the battery, air intake and electrical systems, and testing the transfer switch and voltage output.
Why once a year matters in Lincoln
Your generator lives outside. In a Lincoln summer it sits through heat, humidity and grass clippings. In winter it waits through ice, snow and wind for the one night it's needed. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for the Lincoln airport average about 42 days a year at 90°F or hotter and about 10 nights below zero. Batteries weaken in that kind of cold, and old oil makes a cold start harder.
Snow, grass and leaves need clearing from the ventsBetween visits, keep snow, leaves and mulch away from the enclosure's vents, and listen for the scheduled exercise run so you know it's still starting.
Plans or one visit
You can book one maintenance visit, or join a yearly plan and let us keep track of the date. Owners on a plan get a reminder before the visit is due and move to the front of the line when a storm brings in a wave of calls.

Angi bases its 2026 average on 1,488 projects and notes that model, fuel type and unit size move the price. Larger standby units need more service.
